Despite the existence of messaging on the internet, I still regularly sell cards so here are 11 new ones for 2023, created from photos taken over the past two years in Canada, France, Mexico and the USA.

Malgré l’existence des messageries sur internet, je vends encore régulièrement des cartes donc en voila 11 nouvelles pour 2023, créées à partir de photos prises ces deux dernières années au Canada, en France, au Mexique et aux USA.

I chose them because I liked the stories I could imagine behind them!

Je les ai choisies parce que j’aimais l’histoire que je pouvais imaginer derrière!

The 1st card (Againts all odds) speaks to me of adaptation, resilience, stubbornness; all it takes is a small patch of land that isn’t even often wet for life to explode.

La 1ère carte (Contre toute attente) me parle d’adaptation, de résiliance, d’entêtement; il suffit d’un petit pan de terre même pas souvent humide pour que la vie explose.

The 2nd (All that jazz) shows part of a clarinet and saxophone repair workshop and even if its owner hadn’t told me, I would have guessed that he was also a jazz musician.

La 2ème (Tout ce jazz) montre une partie d’un atelier de réparateur de clarinettes et de saxophones et même s’il ne me l’avait pas dit, j’aurais deviné que c’était aussi un musicien de jazz.

The 3rd (A water labyrinth) comes from Mexico and the use of colors even in the decoration of canals that bring water into a swimming pool makes me love the country.

La 3ème (un labyrinthe d’eau) vient du Mexique et l’utilisation des couleurs jusque dans la décoration de canaux qui amènent l’eau dans un bassin de nage me fait aimer le pays.

The 4th card (colors of the South) also comes from Mexico and this time it’s the walls that speak of warmth and cheerfulness.

La 4ème carte (Couleurs du sud) vient aussi du Mexique et c’est cette fois-ci les murs qui parlent de chaleur et de gaité.

With the 5th (Go west), you have to guess that it is a mythical road with the dreams it still carries and that is why you only see part of the inscription.

Avec la 5ème (allez à l’ouest), il faut deviner qu’il s’agit d’une route mythique et des rêves qu’elle porte encore et c’est pour cela qu’on ne voit qu’une partie de l’inscription.

The 6th (The ideal gallery) was taken in a castle in France and the arrangement of the images on the wall seemed to match the 19th century atmosphere of the place.

La 6ème (La galerie idéale) a été prise dans un château en France et l’arrangement des images sur le mur me semblait bien correspondre à l’atmosphère 19ieme siècle de l’endroit.

It is for its composition that the 7th card (the trio) pleases me!

C’est pour sa composition que la 7ème carte (le trio) me plait!

In the 8th (lunch break at Almarodo), I imagine that the owner of the bike is on a lunch break but will probably be back soon to continue transporting general cargo.

Dans la 8ème (Pause déjeuner à Almarodo), j’imagine que le propriétaire du vélo est en pause déjeuner mais qu’il va sans doute revenir bientôt pour continuer à transporter des marchandises diverses.

What makes me smile in the 9th (My boat, my rules) is that in Canada, the custom of taking off your shoes before entering a house is not limited to the house.

Ce qui me fait sourire dans la 9ème (mon bateau, mes régles), c’est qu’au Canada, la coutume de se déchausser avant d’entrer dans une maison ne se limite pas à la maison.

The wall is no longer very new in the 10th card (Number 7), but the flowers adorn it and the number 7 brings good luck.

Le mur n’est plus très neuf dans la 10ème carte (Numéro 7) mais les fleurs l’agrémentent et le chiffre 7 porte bonheur.

The 11th card (The anomaly) carries a mystery apart from the choice of shades of blue. Is the door impossible to open from the inside or are unwanted people passing through?

La 11ème carte (L’anomalie) porte un mystère en dehors du choix des nuances de bleu. La porte est-elle impossible à ouvrir de l’intérieur ou y fait-on passer les indésirables?

I think that I still sell cards because writing by hand, running your tongue over the sticky part of the envelope to close it, writing down the recipient’s address, then putting on a stamp or going to the post office to buy one, these are gestures which undoubtedly give more weight to the message which is thus sent. Do you agree with me ?

Je pense que je vends encore des cartes parce qu’écrire à la main, passer sa langue sur la partie collante de l’enveloppe pour la fermer, noter l’adresse du destinataire, mettre ensuite un timbre ou aller à la poste en acheter un, ce sont des gestes qui donnent plus de poids au message qui est ainsi envoyé. Vous êtes d’accord avec moi?
